A Debate on Sexual Harassment and Pornography by MacKinnon

In our textbook, MacKinnon discusses a whole lot of good and interesting points she discusses within her topics. For instance, MacKinnon discusses some good details on sexual harassment and pornography.

One

of the key points MacKinnon discusses with sexual harassment was

“Moreover, sexually harassing tendencies has been used as a means

of keeping ladies out of typically male environments” (50).

Sexual harassment is among the reasons girls quit their jobs and

makes them accept less paid job with an improved work environment.

Men almost never experience sexual harassment at work and rarely

have to deal with it. Another related stage created by MacKinon is that women

more than guys get pressured out of or need to quit desirable jobs.

Also, relating to MacKinnon, sexuality may be the main factor of women’s

subordination.

MacKinnon produced some interesting items on pornography. MacKinnon

states, “Pornography is not merely a manifestation, as there are

real sexual acts occurring, and sometimes… they are acts

of rape and violence.” (80). MacKinnon as well states,

“Pornography harms females, by creating (or assisting to cause)

violence, specifically sexual violence, against females…
